Future-self Friday: What the Pandemic Showed Me about Myself

Happy Friday!

In my latest Wellness Wednesday blog post on Saudi Diva, I mentioned how we had a temporary water shutdown in the building.

The original notice said that it will last from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. I thought that I will simply keep myself busy until then and that it will most likely end before 5:00.

It was after 6 and we still didn’t have any running water. So I called to ask and the receptionist informed me that the job was extended to 10:00 pm!

I think I finished an entire pack of 1.5 liter bottled water that day.

At 10:05, there was still no sign of water. So I called again to check and I was told that they are still working and that they will update us once it’s done.

At around 10:40 pm, we had water for a few minutes before it was shut down again!

I decided to wash my face with a bottle of water and went to bed at 11:30 pm.

The shutdown lasted from around 10:00 am on Wednesday until about 6:00 am or so on Thursday.

What I thought was very interesting is how as soon as I published my very structured daily routine during lockdown, this happened!
It’s like the Universe wanted me to shake up my routine to the maximum that I could!

As you know, shaking up your routine and doing things differently gives momentum to manifesting and that’s exactly what happened on Wednesday and Thursday!

I couldn’t take a shower on that day, I took a break from washing dishes, I had my snack and tea at a new time, I spent Thursday morning washing dishes for an hour instead of working. Everything got mixed up and that was really needed!

Powerful Time for Self-reflection

I will definitely write a blog post on the positives of the pandemic and these are many!

Today, I want to talk about how I was able to connect to my authentic self more in this season.

I always knew that I was different from my family. That the conditioning simply didn’t fit my personality and it had to die.

Talking about that, there’s a Full Strawberry Moon tonight and it falls with an eclipse, so it’s a powerful time for releasing the old and stepping into your authentic self.

Because both my parents were business people, the entire theme of my upbringing and life was about education, career, success and achievement.

And although I value success, I just don’t have it as a top personal value.

I don’t put it at the top of my list and I just wrote a new intentions list yesterday and it’s not there at all!

My priorities include manifesting a partner, expanding my connections, spending more time in Bali and other magical goals that I keep for myself.

Basically, my mother wasn’t the type of woman who would cook and I’m not like her.

I enjoy cooking, testing new recipes and especially now with this lockdown life, I love how I’m making all of my meals on weekends. My body is eternally grateful for this.

And since we had help in the house, my mother would never clean or do laundry.

Obviously living in Dubai alone, I do all the cleaning and laundry on my own.

I used to give the bed sheets and pillow cases for laundry but I don’t do this anymore.

I’ll be writing a future post about the many positives and skills that I learned in this pandemic season.

What I’m trying to say is that I’m able to deepen my connection to my authentic self by focusing my energy inwards and simply doing what brings me joy.

This doesn’t mean that I’m ignoring other aspects of my life. I just finished a great Instagram course and I’m going to apply what I learned soon.

It just means that I don’t give as much significance to career, success and achievement as my parents do and always did.

Travel is another hobby or something that I value and in my free time, I research new destinations or hotels. I connect with other like-minded travelers (I will write a post about how you can expand your connections soon).

Moving my body is another thing that I was always into and I’m the only one in my family who is active. My dad goes for walks but that’s about it.

I don’t write this to say that I’m superior or better.

The reason that I chose to share this topic and personal story is to inspire you to look at your own lifestyle and family/societal conditioning.

Maybe you’ve been following someone else’s way of life and habits without knowing?

Maybe there’s a very active soul inside of you, dying to come out and be acknowledged?

Maybe it’s time to set an intention to release that old part and trust that the rest will unfold beautifully?

On tonight’s powerful full moon, I encourage you to set an intention to release whatever you’re ready to let go of now.

This can help you connect with your authentic self, manifest faster and bring a series of synchronicities into your life that will help you find the real you.

And remember that the process of re-connecting to your authentic self takes patience and persistence. So don’t be in a rush to get to anywhere and sometimes, all it takes in setting a pure intention and surrendering to the process.

I’m excited about coloring my hair today at home for the first time. Another new skill to learn in this season. Feeling so grateful for getting closer to my future self with each passing day.

What are insights are you having about yourself in this season?

Do you feel more connected to the real you?

Are you letting go of the habits and thought patterns – and possibly people – that no longer serve you?

If you’re not sure about all of this, simply set an intention at tonight’s full moon.

You can read this blog post for some practical tips on how to do just that!

Love,

Leela
